2018 Land Rover Discovery Concept – Jaguar Land Rover Special Vehicle Operations has produced some pretty slick nonsense in his relatively short life so far;Range Rover Sport SVR and Jaguar F-Type SVR are both dirty asphalt trackers. But given the Land Rover adventure pedigree we have been waiting for off-road equivalents, and it looks like the SVX Discovery landed immediately to make that dream come true.
Not a new Defender, but actually looks really bad for a manned unibody seven-passenger civilized SUV.
The official press release from the Frankfurt Motor Show includes the 2015 Land Discovery SVX as the “most extreme Land Rover” which is a bold claim to consider that this same company has rejected off-road benchmarks like Defender, Series and yeah trucks, early Discoveryand the Range Rover is also very handsome if you can catch it on the day they run well.
Unfortunately, we can not go so far as to analyze the true potential of Discovery SVX because Land Rover has so far remained vague on the actual capabilities of the vehicle.Approach, breakover and departure angle are only described as “corrected” through the standard Discovery.
What we see in these pictures is Land Rover called “production preview.” That is, although promising 201X Discovery SVX will be the real thing, the vehicle here more shows the “idea” about it. than the actual execution. Read: front and back cranes and maybe the light bar will not make a list of choices.
For your reference, the regular Discovery has a 23.6º viewing angle, a breakdown of 20.1º and a 25º departure angle. Ground clearance at the lowest point is 8.6 inches and depth of deep-water depth of 33.4 inches corresponds to Land Rover. So SVX must destroy all those numbers and, frankly, be a bad luck that is not profitable.
The closest we get to the Disco SVX specification, officially, at the moment is:
- “Raised” unibody
- Four-angle air suspension with “long journey dampers and revised books”
- Goodyear Wrangler 31-inch all-terrain tire
- The middle part is active and the electronic rear locking difference
- Terrain Response 2 selected traction control software
- Automatic transmission shifter grips (replacing rotary dial)
- Unique calibration of eight-speed automatic transmission and “twin speed transfer box” plus all the usual Land Rover off-road riding aid.
- Plus, of course, red recovery latches.Oh wait!Sorry!Make the orange hook.(God forbid this confusing person with Jeep Grand Cherokee Trailhawk farmers or whatever.)
- Hydraulic Active Roll Control (H-ARC)
The H-ARC should provide “improved wheel articulation and improved body control, increased extreme off-road attractiveness while also reducing body roll for smooth and steady ride” and are on Discovery for the first time on SVX.
The engine will be a 5.0-liter supercharged V8 with 518 horsepower (525 horsepower metrics, like Land Rover advertise it) and 561 lb-ft of torque.
Vehicles look handsome, if you want me. And I’m sure you did, because you clicked on my blog. An aggressive tire and some selected trim pieces make for a long way to make Discovery a bit too subtle look worthy enough to be a green oval badge.
And the idea of this ability that makes Land Rovers so popular for suburban use.
Part of me feels like we should not be too attached to this orange-cut endeavor, like a dummy stepmother trying to fix her ass kicked so the big daddy Defender gets out of jail and goes home.Like the horrible Will Ferrel movie.
But as Jeep has proven, there is plenty of room for off-road farm vehicles and luxury SUVs that are preserved for off-road use in the same ranks. With that in mind, Discovery SVX can be a gorgeous pretty sight for people with the old Land Rover desired but needs a new Land Rover.(I hope the non-Land Rover fans will only save $ 30,000 and get the Jeep, as always.)
As for the pricing, no one has been confirmed. But the Range Rover Sport starts around $ 65,000 and after SVO blew it, the number jumped to around $ 120,000.The Discovery list contains about $ 50,000, and I do not suspect Discovery SVX will ring well under $ 75,000.
As a previous Land Rover Discovery owner and a LR fanatic, I am very excited. This is the kind of vehicle I want to get out of my glass office and into the wilderness of Tanzania in the fantasies of my rich-to-my-new car.
