2018 Lincoln Navigator Price, Design, Release Date and Specs – When Lincoln dropped the concept of a large (and very luxurious) winged Navigator last year, no one really expected the luxury side of Ford to retain most of the styling elements for the production version. But Navigator 2018 is in our hands, and Lincoln clearly follows the “surprise and awe” route.

The front end is almost a remake of a shot-for-shot of the concept, with a very noticeable headlamp and a nose that looks like a fight with a brick wall. The grille was impressive, which made sense, because the Navigator was always Lincoln’s biggest and worst dog.

The back makes some more changes, with a clear description of reverse lights and brakes (silly government regulations), yet retains a cute little spoiler that is detached from the roof. Almost everything else is also the same, from the design of the cover to the corrugated wheels, although wrapped in a slightly larger tires.

In style, the Navigator interior is pretty close to the concept as well. There is a large screen in place of the cluster gauge, and other large screens take on infotainment tasks. There are many physical switchgear, which an older buyer (and I) will definitely enjoy. This is actually quite fun, and a bit more conservative than the exterior.

Under the hood there is a 3.5 liter V6, a nice twin-turbocharged for 450 horsepower. It’s mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission, and all-wheel drive is probably standard, but Lincoln does not say it. There is a possibility that the base model can be a rear-wheel drive, as it is based on the new F-150 frame, which can handle drivetrain configurations. As before, it will be offered with two different wheelbase, but the old Navigator L wheelbase will not be long.

Exterior technologies include LED puddle lights, windshield and laminate side, as well as adaptive lighting that depends on speed, narrowing rays as the car speeds up to reduce glare, offering increased visibility at low speeds around the city. There are also inclination and intrusion sensors, for a bit of extra security when away from the vehicle.

Since Navigator shares its platform with Ford Expedition 2018, it also brings a lot of in-car Expedition technology. Sync 3 is standard, and it includes Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. There are six USB ports on three lines, along with four 12-volt outlets and 110-volt plugs, and a cordless phone charger in front. There is also a head-up display available.

Optional rear entertainment system offers streaming from Android devices. For internet addicts, an embedded 4G LTE modem produces Wi-Fi hotspots capable of handling up to 10 mobile devices at once.

Do not worry – there are many luxurious Lincoln touches here too. The front seats are the Lincoln’s Perfect Position Seat, which debuts at Continental and offers 30-way adjustments. There is also an optional 20-speaker Revel II sound system, which can mimic the experience of being in the audience in the concert hall.

And, because of Lincoln, wish there were some super-luxury upgrades from the in-house Black Label department. The navigator you see here displays some of those touches.

2018 Lincoln Navigator will bend in 2017 New York Auto Show, but price and availability are still TBD.
